GO-GO HONORS

The Go-Go honors recognized ten Go-Go leaders who pioneered and shaped DC’s musical and cultural landscape. Guests participated in a champagne toast to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Go-Go music becoming DC’s official music.

KEEP THE BEAT WEEK, held February 18th-23rd, 2024 celebrated GO-GO music history and DC culture. The Fourth Annual Keep the Beat Week recognized the fourth anniversary of the bill signing that led GO-GO to become the Official Music of the District of Columbia.

Thank you to those who joined us in celebrating the rich history of the genre through various activations, campaigns, and social media posts.

The Pulse of the Capital Go-Go anniversary concert featured lively performances from esteemed Go-Go bands in DC. Located at Howard Theatre, concertgoers were able to get down and celebrate the rich tapestry of Go-Go music!

Women in Go-Go Panel

Moderated by Poet of WPGC 95.5, the Women in Go-Go panel highlighted prominent female Go-Go artists in DC. Through an inspiring and influential panel session, guests were able to learn more about their favorite influential female Go-Go artists.

Spoken Word to Go-Go

The Spoken Word to Go-Go event, which took place directly after the panel, featured live Go-Go band performances along with a spoken word competition.

Go-Go Fitness + Mindfulness

Go-Go Fitness and Mindfulness allowed participants to engage in a calming and meditative yoga session and immersive sound bath led by Kalilia Wilson. Participants also got the opportunity to learn classic Go-Go dance moves from Crazy Legz backed by beats from DJ Nah Fr.

Art to Go-Go

Art to Go-Go offers the community an opportunity to explore murals around Ward 8. The initiative connects local artists with Go-Go legends to transform Anacostia’s scooter corrals into public art.

#DCisGoGo

The Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment, DC Creative Affairs Office and 202Creates worked with critically acclaimed storyteller, Robert Young, for a Public Art Activation in Ward 5. The 51 words in the mural symbolize the importance of statehood for Washington, DC.

Mayor Bowser Signs Bill Go-Go Music Bill Signing

On February 19, 2019, Mayor Muriel Bowser signed the Go-Go bill making Go-Go the official music of Washington, DC! Watch the historic bill signing which was held at Culture House.
